This is the time that you have to be selfish... the hubby and kids have to weight...

sign the kids up for sports camps... and you go mall walking... ask a friend to join you... better yet... get a friend to join the Y or a local gym with you and go together... a lot of places offer free babysitting like the Y and Gold's gym...

Buy an iPod or something like that and load it up with your fave tunes....

And make sure you are doing measurements every month!

Also, put your kids in charge of keeping you on track... if you don't workout and you said you would... let them ground ya etc lol... it would make it fun for them and keep you on your toes...

Let's face it - when we're heavy and feeling like a slug we don't like to exercise and its a snowball effect. Finding something fun that you like and know will keep at it is one key thing. I used to use a treadmill until my knees got bad - now I have a recumbant bike - its in my bedroom and I ride it in the mornings before anyone gets up. It works for me - put my headphones on and ride, ride, ride.

One thing I will tell you is that my nutritionist said it takes 4-6 weeks to form a habit, even good ones, so give yourself a few weeks at exercise (anything) before declaring you don't like it - trust me, once you get into the routine of whatever it is you'll want to do it because you'll feel better for it. You can't do something once or twice and decide you don't like it - give all sorts of things a chance - eventually you'll find something you love.

Like the Nike commercial says......JUST DO IT!!!!  Most of us do not enjoy exercise but know it is something we must do.  I get up an hour earlier each day and walk 3 miles each morning.  While there is not a day that goes by that I do not want to hit the snooze button on my alarm clock, I make myself get up and say this is for me.

You can do......just put your mind to and you will love the results.  Good luck!!!!!

All the woman so far have given great advise but I will also be the hard a**. You knew going into surgery that exercise is part of the after care along with our supplements. Stop making the excuses that hubby or the kids need you or your day is busy. We all have those things in varying degrees. You have to make the time for YOU to do this! You are in the honeymoon period in a few months this will end and weight loss will be harder.

YOU CAN DO THIS FOR YOU! If you go into it thinking I always end up quitting or I hate this and that well you will do exactly that hate it ! Find something that you can do walk or swim and be positive about it. You will find your niche in what you enjoy and you will reap teh benefits.

Also if you have Comcast on demand they have an exercise and fitness channel you can cue up about 50 different workouts from starter to advance a month.

Good Luck and remember YOU CAN DO THIS!

Here's a novel idea.   Introduce your hubby to this website and let him get familiar with your needs; we'll even go gentle on him.  I'm just assuming here that he's gonna benefit a whole lot by a wife that is healthier, more active, more positive, more sexual, more, more, more....get my drift???   He needs to help you out.   You are not the family mule anymore doing all the work and flopping on the couch in exhaustion at the end of the night.   Then again, if you are using family as an excuse and you knew what you needed to do before going into this and you aren't doing it, you will indeed not see the results and it will be painful in many ways (and I'd guess you will probably blame them) which will create more negativity in your life (that's why we see psychs for evals before doing this!).   Just my opinion, I know this is all about US as INDIVIDUALS, but reality is, when you've got a family and you want to keep it, it's a family affair that needs everyone's input.   It's pretty hard to follow your plan when you've got your kids Cheetos on top of the fridge staring back at you.   Been there, done that.  It's a long journey but it started on surgery day and there's no going back now so hop to it girlfriend.   Baby steps, just like when you raised your kids, had to crawl, then stand, then step, then walk before you could run.   And your first steps were holding onto someone else's hands, remember?  Think of surgery and exercise like that.   Hugs and Good Luck!

Everyone has already given you great feedback.  I think along the sames lines as Jen.  Make it a game...make it a competition with yourself.  I used to run in college and in my 20's....and started again after surgery.  What always kept me going was the competition with myself.  Every time I worked out, I pushed myself to beat my last time or distance or whatever I decided to beat.  I am extremely competitive with myself and it works for me.

Whatever you do, you MUST exercise.  It's not only for weight loss, its for your bones, heart, lungs, circulation, etc....it does a body good!
